Through the generosity of a Local Network Fund grant, and in co-operation with local mums, St. Luke's Church launched the above project in February 2004 to enrich the lives of youngsters aged between 8 and 18 years.

The main aim of the Project is to provide access and financial subsidy to young people as they engage with various forms of expressive art.

The project has so far provided two forms of musical training. Keyboard and brass instruments have been purchased for hire by the youngsters, and weekly tuition given on a Thursday evening by Sarah Freeman, a local, qualified music teacher. The project also provide percussion workshops for all age groups.

'The beat of Africa came to Redditch, brought by the Drum Love Band. Over the space of ten weeks the band introduced us to a wide range of drums, some of which were stick drums which played the base, and hand drums which played the tune. They taught us in easy steps how to play the different drums and very quickly we were able to perform more complex sequences.

It was LOUD! It was FUN!
and I cant wait to do it AGAIN!!!'

(Kate, a Drum Love participant)
